COL (Ret) Dennis Barlow, Director of the JMU MAIC, previously was Director of Humanitarian Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Director of the Humanitarian Demining Task Force in the Pentagon. He coordinated civil-military actions with host governments, NGOs and United Nations' agencies in Haiti, Iraq, Kurdistan, Panama and Saudi Arabia. He has been the director of the JMU MAIC since 1996. During that time the center has developed the MAIC Web site, overseen the publication of the Journal of Mine Action, conducted 14 major conferences, supervised nine major studies, taught four Senior Managers' Courses and developed and implemented a national mine-risk education campaign. He has supervised projects in support of the U.S. Departments of Defense and State; the governments of Switzerland, Canada and Slovenia; various U.N. agencies; and numerous NGOs. He holds advanced degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the Naval War College. |

Lois Carter Fay is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mine Action and more recently has also served as Project Manager on the Adaptive Technology Catalog and the To Walk The Earth In Safety projects. Prior to joining the MAIC in 2005, Carter Fay was self-employed with MarketingIdeaShop.com, a consulting and publishing company, and today she continues this activity part-time. Her management, writing, publishing and editing skills have been a solid addition to the MAIC staff. Carter Fay is an accredited public relations professional (APR) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her husband and she have four children (three grown, one still at home). She loves to read, garden and make jewelry, and more recently has gotten into biking. |

Dr. Suzanne Fiederlein joined the MAIC in 1999 as a faculty associate. Now a Senior Research Associate, she serves as the victim-assistance team leader for the MAIC. She has worked on projects related to International Mine Action Standards, victim and survivor assistance, mine-action database systems (specializing in casualty data), mine action in Latin America and program evaluation. In addition, she has coordinated the curriculum for the UNDP Mine Action Senior Managers' course. She holds graduate degrees in Latin American studies (M.A., Univ. of Texas) and political science (Ph.D., Univ. of Arizona) and has served on the faculty of James Madison University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Her fields of academic research include refugee policy, international law and organizations, and Latin American politics. |

Carolyn Firkin is the Program Support Specialist for the Mine Action Information Center. She has held this position since March 1997. Prior to coming to JMU she spent approximately 10 years working for the federal service in Northern Virginia. She enjoys walking, gardening and spending time with her children. |

Nicole Neitzey is Managing Editor and Online Editor for the Journal of Mine Action as well as a Project Manager. Neitzey has been working at the Mine Action Information Center since 2001. Originally from New Jersey, she graduated from James Madison University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in technical and scientific communication and an online publications specialization. She and her husband reside in Grottoes, Virginia. |

Ms. Daniele Ressler is Program Manager for the MAIC, as well Research Specialist for the center and Content Editor the Journal of Mine Action. She has been working at the MAIC since November 2005, originally as Assistant Editor for the Journal of Mine Action and Research Specialist. In this time she has supported or managed a variety of activities including: research and project management for a number of funded projects; assisting with the MAIC?s implementation of two UNDP Mine Action Senior Management Training Courses; and overseeing the Journal?s database. She holds a Master of Science (Merit) in violence, conflict and development studies from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies. She has also studied in both Caux, Switzerland, earning a Certificate for Applied Studies in peacebuilding, and Nairobi, Kenya at Daystar University. She is presently working toward a Master of Public Administration at James Madison University, and enjoys gardening and musical performance in her free time. |

Holley Watts is the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Mine Action, joining the MAIC staff in February 2008. Previously, she was a professional fundraiser for public TV and radio in Michigan and Virginia. In 2004 she wrote a memoir about her Red Cross 1966?67 Vietnam experience and most recently co-wrote and narrated a documentary about the program for release in 2008. Her interests include reading, writing poetry, public speaking, piano repair and traveling. |
